Privacy policy

The short version
- No account. There's nothing to sign up for, and Nuri never asks for your name or email.
- What you do in Nuri stays on your iPhone. Your saved words, your answers from setup and what you've watched are kept on your device. We can't see them.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking. We don't sell or share anything about you, because we don't have anything about you.
- Scenes play in YouTube's own player. That means Google receives what it receives from any embedded YouTube video. More on that below.
- Apple handles payment. We never see your card.
Who we are
Nuri is made by Suket Bhola, an independent developer based in Ambala, India. When this policy says "we" or "us", it means Suket Bhola. You can reach us at suket@nurilang.com.
What stays on your device
Nuri keeps these on your iPhone so the app works the way you set it up:
- the words you save, where you saved them from, and when they're next due for review
- your answers from setup: the shows you picked, how much you catch without subtitles, your goal, how many minutes a day you'd like, when you usually watch, and where you heard about Nuri
- what you've watched: which scenes, and roughly how many seconds a day
- scenes you saved, and shows you asked to see less of
- your display choices, such as showing pronunciation under words
None of this is sent to us or to anyone else. It lives in the app's own storage on your device. If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, the backup may include it, and Apple's terms cover that backup. Deleting Nuri deletes all of it.
What we don't collect
We don't collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, location, photos, microphone, or your device's advertising identifier. Nuri has no sign in, no analytics tools and no advertising tools built in.
Scenes from YouTube
Nuri uses YouTube API Services to play scenes. Each scene plays in YouTube's embedded player, and the small still pictures of scenes load from YouTube too.
When a scene plays or its picture loads, your device connects directly to YouTube, which is run by Google. Google may collect information such as your IP address, details about your device, and what you watch, and it may store cookies or similar data on your device. YouTube may also show its own ads in its player. Nuri doesn't receive any of that information, and Google's handling of it is covered by:
Nuri doesn't sign you in to YouTube and can't see your YouTube or Google account.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions are bought and managed through your Apple Account. Apple processes the payment, and we never see your card or billing details. The app asks Apple whether you have an active subscription, and Apple gives us sales reports that don't identify you. Apple's handling of your purchase is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
Reminders
If you allow notifications, Nuri schedules at most one reminder a day on your iPhone itself, for the time you said you usually watch. Reminders are created on your device and nothing about them is sent to a server. You can turn them off any time in iPhone Settings.
Ratings
Nuri may ask once whether you'd like to rate it. That prompt is Apple's, and anything you write goes to Apple and the App Store, not to us.
When you email us
If you write to us, we get your email address and whatever you choose to send. We use it only to reply and to fix what you told us about, and we delete it when it's no longer needed for that. We don't add you to any mailing list.
Children
Nuri is not meant for children under 13. Scenes come from real dramas and keep their real language, including swearing. Nuri doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone, at any age.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act, Australia's Privacy Act and Canada's PIPEDA give you rights over your personal information, including the right to see it and to have it deleted.
Because Nuri keeps everything on your device, we hold no personal information about you on any server. To delete everything, delete the app. If you've emailed us and want that email deleted, ask us at suket@nurilang.com and we will. We don't sell or share personal information.
If this changes
If Nuri ever adds something that sends information off your device, such as an account, syncing between devices, or analytics, we'll update this page and the App Store privacy details before that version is released, and the date at the top will change.
